Old Meets New On The Fringes

Two miles from our house is the corner of Hog Mountain Road and Friendship Road. The photos of each corner tell the story of how this once sleepy rural crossroad is adapting to suburban sprawl.

This is our local produce market. During summer it specializes in local goods and is open daily, but this time of year it is only open on weekends and carries more out-of-state produce.

Behind the signs is a huge corn field that each fall is used a corn maze.

The busiest corner of all is home to this unique Mom-and-Pop restaurant. It is open Monday through Saturday for breakfast and lunch and by 7 AM it is jam-packed with cars and pickups. If you like biscuits and gravy or a good veggie plate then this is the place.

Alas, the final corner portrays the future for the entire intersection.
