Hot Summer Surprises

Lately I've been thinking a bit negatively and that has kept me from posting to the blog. After all, who wants to read about negative things. The weather has been hot and dry, meaning the garden we so hoped would be producing a bounty of veggies has struggled. Even the hydrangeas are wilting. And it has been too hot to go on any decent bike rides, so I've just procrastinated. What can I post that has a positive side to it? But no more. I opened my eyes, changed my mind, I looked around and "behold" - beautiful things to blog about.

The second driveway is now completed and here Susan works to spruce up the edges. It sure is nice to be able to back the truck up to the basement door. I can now fill the basement with junk that much quicker. Ah, a basement full of "stuff" is certainly a thing of beauty!

And while I said that the garden has struggled, we are getting a few greens and tomatoes. They may be small but they are tasty.

The birdfeeder contributed a "volunteer" sunflower. The honey bees love it and even a hummingbird scouts it out once and a while. And just think, I didn't even have to plant it.

Will you look at the fig tree we planted only a couple of months ago. Look at the fruit. We dug it up at Susan's mother's place in Athens (Georgia) and transplanted it. I believed the original shoot of this tree came from Susan's grandmother's place in Elko, Georgia. I can taste those fig preserves already.

And the best for last. After a day of gathering wild blackberries - and the area is teeming with them this year - Susan baked a cobbler. Yum. I do believe I have my rose-colored glasses back on!
