Earlier this year Susan and I had a few trees cut down around house. We had the foresight to have them cut into 16~18 inch lengths so we could split them into firewood at a later date. Yesterday's cool spell reminded us that our fireplace wasn't much use without a supply of wood.
It would have taken me months to split the wood by hand and probably two days to do it myself with a rental mechanical splitter, but in about 1-1/2 hours, with the help of Louie and Naomi, the task was completed. This was a well organized and planned effort. We all had our assigned positions. Louie manhandled the logs into the splitter, Naomi stacked the split wood, and I actually split the wood by pushing down on a little lever.

Old age and treachery wins over youth and skill every time |
OK, so I'm not proud but my back doesn't hurt at all this morning. I hope I don't get a chiropractic bill from Louie or Naomi. Guilt did win out afterwards and I treated them to lunch at a place of their choice. Well, almost, since Louie immediately suggested Ruth's Chris Steak House, but we settled for some local Tex-Mex.

Thanks Naomi and Louie. Feel free to come by and grab all the split wood you need.
