Newt's Honey Wheat Bread

I adapted this from a recipe for whole wheat hamburger buns that I found at WebMD. I made some changes and now use it for both bread and buns.

Ingredients:

1 cup hot tap water

2 tablespoons corn oil*

1/4 cup honey*

1 tablespoon molasses*

1-1/2 cup whole-wheat flour

1-1/4 white bread flour

1/4 cup Hodgson Mill multi-grain cereal w/ground flaxseed hot cereal

1 teaspoons salt

3 teaspoons Hodgson Mill Vital wheat gluten

3 teaspoons bread machine yeast

Place ingredients in bread machine in order of listing

  1. Set for dough cycle
  2. When dough is complete remove to floured board and shape into loaf, hamburger buns, or both
  3. Place on a cookie sheet covered with corn meal
  4. Cover with a dish towel and place in a warm spot (like top of oven) for 30 minutes
  5. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  6. Bake 30 minutes, 25 minutes for buns

* Since molasses and honey sticks to the sides of a measure cup or spoon, so try this. First add the cooking oil using a measuring spoon and then use the same spoon, with the thin coating of oil on it, for the molasses. All the molasses easily slides out of the spoon. The trick for the honey is similar. Coat the inside of the measuring cup with cooking oil using your finger. Then add the honey and pour it into the bowl. A couple of good shakes will get all the honey off of the measuring cup.

The finished product as

a portabella mushroom burger with avocado, lettuce, tomato, and melted mozzarella cheese, with a side of

baked sweet potatoes.
