Wrestling In Georgia

Georgia State High School Finals
Newt enjoyed watching the last of this season's high school wrestling at the Individual State Finals hosted by the Atlanta Takedown Association (ATA) in the nearby Gwinnett Arena. All of Georgia's five school classes (A thru 5A) were represented. The arena floor was completely covered with wrestling mats in the early rounds but the finals were held on 5 mats (for each school class) with each of the 14 weight classes being contested at the same time. This year Collins Hill, a nationally ranked 5A team, set new State and area records by producing five individual champions and placing in 12 of the 14 weight classes. They easily won the team title and most agree it is the best team ever produced by a Georgia school. Over the past few years the ATA, a volunteer organization, and the State have fine tuned this event into one of the best organized wrestling championships in the nation.
